The Chicago Thinker’s Editor-in-Chief Audrey Unverferth slammed the University of Chicago’s booster mandate on Tucker Carlson Tonight this Tuesday. “My editorial board and I are speaking out demanding that the University of Chicago end its unethical, anti-science booster mandate,” declared Unverferth.
Carlson applauded the efforts of the Chicago Thinker, for “fighting” the booster mandate “in a very principled and articulate way.” He urged listeners to read the Thinker’s recent viral editorial on the university’s booster mandate. It is “better than what you read in a lot of American newspapers,” added Carlson.
“What we outlined very carefully in the editorial is that there’s just no excuse for this latest mandate. It’s absolutely absurd,” said Unverferth. “[O]ne of the worst parts of [the booster mandate] is that it imposes a caste system within our university.”
Unverferth explained that “doctors and select scientists are exempt [from the booster mandate].” This means that “some of the world’s leading doctors and scientists don’t have to get this jab, including those who are experts in immunology,” she said.
“Meanwhile, students and professors and others are being told that in order to participate in this community that I so love, we need to get yet another jab,” she lamented.
Unverferth stated that we at the Chicago Thinker are “saying enough is enough […w]e’re calling on everyone to sign our petition […] and help us end this.”
“I think you’re a civil rights hero for doing this because I think that’s what you’re defending, civil rights—human rights,” Carlson said to Unverferth.
When asked how the editorial has been received on the University of Chicago’s campus, Unverferth stated that “sadly, so many people are so very afraid,” and do not join the Chicago Thinker’s efforts.
Unverferth said that the “sheep” at UChicago, who think if “they just follow along and they follow the rules, this will all go away,” are sorely mistaken. “[T]he thing is, this COVID theater is never going to end if we don’t fight back now.”
Watched the interview last night and it was amazing! Proud to see people standing up! We deal with the same here in NY. Keep up the fight and thank you! 🇺🇲
Have you considered that most UChicago students have not joined your petition, not because we’re “scared” or are just “sheep”, but because we think the booster mandate is appropriate and that we disagree with your baseless and hollow fearmongering? You’ve continually demonstrated that you have no interest in actually speaking with your peers about *why* most of us are following the university’s directions. Instead, you insult us, call us “sheep,” and write about us as if we’re mindless drones, because that’s what working in right-wing media trains you to do. It trains you to feel superior to others without having to actually put your ideas up to scrutiny. If you actually had a spine, you’d publish the results of that survey you posted on all the UChicago class Facebook pages. Whatever happened to that? Was it too difficult to spin the results to fit your narrative?
On Tucker Carlson, Ms. Unverferth requested comments in opposition to the booster mandate. I fully agree with her and must commend her on a stellar presentation. Most notable was her skillful enunciation. She is incredibly articulate and a welcome change from typical mumbling fast-talkers.
Mandating repeated injections of chemicals with unknown long-term effects is far outside the jurisdiction of an educational institution. It is now evident that current Covid boosters are ineffective against Omicron. Worse, they appear to be creating immunotolerance.
Students are not lab rats. Omicron is akin to the common cold. Most of us have already contracted it or soon will. Life is not without risk.
Finally, exempting immunologists advances a destructive social hierarchy. Such discrimination is explicitly forbidden by the U.S. Constitution and principles of our nation. Perhaps the immunologists know something that is concealed either by or from the policymakers.
Great job! Keep up the good work! I’m glad more young people are looking at the issues, from both sides.
Y’all are incredibly brave and heroes in my book and I could not thank you more. I also hope my 11 year old daughter grows up to be equally brave but more importantly able to think critically and independently for herself and with help from role models like you I know she will. Thanks again.
I think it’s a mistake for Chicago Thinker writers, editors and just American Conservatives to make anti COVID, anti vax, anti mask causes their/our #1 issue.
COVID gives us the perfect ammunition to end all bad immigration, illegal alien migration invasions, Islamic extremist student visas, Communist Chinese/mainland Chinese students taking up so many top USA college spots to become an overclass.
When COVID hit Asia, the most successful Asian countries/Societies like Singapore/Taiwan and Japan ended all travel from foreign countries with bad COVID. We should do the same.
American Conservatives never miss and opportunity to miss and opportunity regarding terrible immigration. After 9-11-01 we should have banned all immigration, student visas from dangerous, hostile Islamic countries. Instead the Neo Con men spun 9-11-01 into another USA war against Secular Arabs in Iraq – how did that work out? Another debacle.
Remarkable issues here. I’m very satisfied to look your article.
Thanks so much and I am taking a look forward to contact
you. Will you please drop me a e-mail?
It genuinely terrifies me that you’ve spent four years at the University of Chicago and have somehow come out of it with the reading comprehension, critical thinking skills, and writing abilities of a bonobo given a typewriter missing half the keys.
Hmm is anyone else encountering problems with the images on this blog loading?
I’m trying to find out if its a problem on my end or if it’s the blog.
Any feed-back would be greatly appreciated.
